## 0. The one-sentence defense

> Gap-04's scoped §II claim — local chamber-center admissibility plus
> phenomenological sufficiency — is **CLOSED at decision grade and unchanged by the
> deep audit**; the *only* thing the audit left open is **global stability of the
> shrinking-volume corner**, which is correctly **delegated to a single named UV
> theorem** (`B-UQFC-14-UV-1`) rather than hand-waved — and that delegation is
> itself a **discovery**: the same three-family index that the theory banks to
> deliver three generations is *arithmetically the same object* that forces the
> obstruction, tying it to the cosmological-constant problem's own leading
> spectral coefficient.

Everything below is the expansion of that sentence, and the answers to the
sharpest objections it invites.

---

## 1. This is NOT a failure of Gap-04 — what was actually claimed, and what holds

A reviewer's first reflex is to read "an open object remains" as "the gap is not
closed." That reflex is wrong here because it conflates two different claims that
the §II result was always careful to separate.

**The scoped §II claim (CLOSED at decision grade).** §II claims, and only claims:

1. **Local chamber-center admissibility.** At the Weyl-rigid chamber center the
   σ-well exists, `c_loop` is positive (`+1.3637×10⁻⁵`, F6 PASS, RG-invariant),
and the modulus sits in a well — *unconditional in `c_loop`* (the v10
Amendment). This is the on-record roster state and the deep audit left it
**byte-unchanged and explicitly vindicated** (the corpus diff record:
"CLOSED at decision grade; well UNCONDITIONAL in `c_loop`").
2. **Phenomenological sufficiency.** Everything §II needs the σ-sector to deliver
for the downstream gauge/flavor outputs — a finite, frozen internal geometry at
the chamber center — is delivered. No phenomenological output of the corpus
rides on the *global* asymptotic fate of the runaway corner.

That claim is closed. The deep audit did not weaken it; it *strengthened* its
honesty by drawing the boundary of what it does and does not assert with a sharp
line.

**What was NEVER claimed by §II.** §II never claimed that the potential is
**globally bounded below as `Vol(K6) → 0`** (the σ → −∞ shrinking-volume corner).
That is a strictly larger statement than chamber-center admissibility, and the
audit's job was to find out whether the perturbative machinery could license it.
It cannot — for a *reason*, not for a *deficiency* (§2). So the correct accounting
is:

| Claim | Status | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Local chamber-center σ-well admissible, `c_loop > 0` | **CLOSED at decision grade** | F6 PASS, RG-invariant, vindicated by deep audit |
| Phenomenological sufficiency of the σ-sector | **CLOSED at decision grade** | No corpus output rides on the global corner |
| Global boundedness as `Vol(K6) → 0` | **PRECISELY-OPEN behind a named UV theorem** (`B-UQFC-14-UV-1`) | Three banked structural theorems show perturbation theory *cannot* decide it; the deciding object is UV |

The gap is closed at the grade it was scoped to. A larger question was opened,
named, and handed off. **That is the method working, not the method failing.**

---

## 2. Global stability is DELEGATED to a named theorem — not hand-waved

The decisive distinction a reviewer must hold is between *hand-waving an open
problem away* and *delegating it to a precisely-stated, falsifiable, named
object*. Gap-04 does the second, and does it with three banked theorems that
together prove the delegation is forced.

**T1 — Index-cancellation exclusion (`wovps8huo`).** The full nine-row
gauge-fixed BV/BRST tower (graviton, gauge, moduli, Higgs, chiral fermions,
ghosts, projections) has a graded multiplicity
**`Str[1] = n_B − n_F = 35 − 90 = −55 ≠ 0`**. Because this is a banked **integer**,
the test is immune to numerical noise: the supertrace `s = −1/2` pole residue does
**not** cancel (`Str_pole = r₀·Str[1] = (−0.08120)(−55) = +4.466 ≠ 0`). The
would-be SUSY-type cancellation that would have made the one-loop sign
scheme-invariant is **forbidden** — and forbidden by a theorem, not assumed.

**T2 — EFT-validity boundary (`wito6mc0z`).** The σ → −∞ corner is *outside* the
regime where the truncated heat-kernel (Seeley–DeWitt) expansion converges: higher
operators outgrow lower ones (`a₆ ~ e^{−12σ}` > `a₄ ~ e^{−8σ}` > `c_loop ~ e^{−6σ}`),
and the would-be perturbative runaway onset (σ ≈ −2.72) lies *at or below* the
sign-symmetric EFT-breakdown onset (σ ≈ +1.40). A runaway that only appears where
the EFT has already broken down is **not a trustworthy perturbative prediction**.
Symmetrically, neither is a perturbative *wall*. The corner is perturbatively
**undecidable** — proven, not asserted.

**T3 — No kinematic floor (`wg206lpk7`).** No prior banked constraint forbids the
shrinking corner. Weyl-rigidity bounds **shape** (`u_i ∈ [1/2, 3/2]³`), not
**volume**; the flux/winding data are scale-invariant holonomies; the family index
is topological and therefore *preserved all along the runaway* (its virtue —
metric-independence — is exactly what makes it useless as a volume floor); the
anchors are not definedness-breaking functions of σ. So the runaway cannot be
excluded by fiat — doing so would be the forbidden "delete the bad direction"
move (guard f).

The three theorems compose to a single, unavoidable conclusion: **the deciding
object lives at the UV completion, not in the perturbative expansion.** That object
is registered, not waved:

> **`B-UQFC-14-UV-1` — Shrinking-Volume UV Wall / Resummed Determinant Theorem.**
> Terminal state: **PRECISELY-OPEN-with-named-target.** Five explicit acceptance
> tests. Both STANDS and RUNAWAY branches remain live. Owner: Chris.

This note does **not** adopt that axiom and does **not** call it closed. It records
that the open question has a name, a falsifier, and a decision procedure — which is
the difference between an honest open frontier and a swept-under-rug.

## 3. The delegation is itself a structural DISCOVERY — the Index-UV-Wall obstruction

The most important thing in this defense is also the least likely to be noticed by
a reviewer skimming for a "PASS." The reason global stabilization is UV-hard is not
an accident of this particular computation. It is **the same index, twice.**

**The load-bearing fact.** The spin-c Borel–Weil–Bott index of the corpus's own
Dirac operator on `K6 = SU(3)/T²` is **−3**. That integer does two things at once:

1. It **forces three chiral families with no mirrors** — the headline
   phenomenological success of the geometry.
2. It **forces 90 unpaired chiral fermionic degrees of freedom with no degenerate
   bosonic partners**, so `n_F = 90` while `n_B = 35`, giving the banked integer
   **`Str[1] = n_B − n_F = −55`**.

Those are not two facts. They are one fact viewed from two sides. The very index
that delivers three families is what makes the graded supertrace non-zero, which is
what blocks the SUSY-type cancellation, which is what leaves the shrinking-volume
one-loop sign scheme-dependent. **Consilience holds — it just does not rescue
stability.** The structure that buys the win is the structure that makes the
remaining question hard.

**Why this ties the obstruction to Λ — across three independent routes.** The
obstruction is not a quirk of one method. Three structurally distinct UV routes
were run, and **all three land on the same banked integer**:

| Route | Object | Where `−55` enters | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supertrace residue (`wovps8huo`) | `Str_pole` at `s = −1/2` | `Str_pole = r₀·Str[1]`, residue survives because `Str[1] ≠ 0` | Λ-hard / scheme-dependent |
| Spectral-positivity Option A (`wq91wo0x0`) | leading **`a₀`** spectral-action moment | the *only* sign-bearing factor in the `a₀` wall amplitude is `Str[1] = −55 < 0` | DOES-NOT-CLOSE |
| Resummed determinant Option B (`wq91wo0x0`) | multiplicative anomaly of `½ Str log D²` | same `Str_pole = +4.466 ≠ 0`, no regulator-invariant lower bound | NEEDS-AXIOM |

The Option-A route is the one that makes the tie to Λ explicit and load-bearing:
the leading spectral-action coefficient is **`a₀`** — the **cosmological-constant /
vacuum-energy term**, `a₀ ~ Vol`. Its amplitude factorizes as
`[f₀ > 0]·[Λ-norm > 0]·[Str[1] = −55]·[e^{−6σ} > 0]`, so its sign is *the sign of
the banked index integer*, and it is **negative**. The run says this in its own
words: this is "**the SAME hardness class as the cosmological-constant
vacuum-energy-sign problem** (a graded supertrace whose sign is not forced by the
IR field content), and we do **not** claim to solve Λ."

That is the discovery, stated cleanly:

> **The Index-UV-Wall obstruction.** The leading spectral object that controls
> shrinking-volume global stability is `a₀` — *the same `a₀` that is the
> cosmological-constant term* — and its sign is fixed by `Str[1] = n_B − n_F`,
> which the three-family index `−3` forces to `−55`. The obstruction to
> self-stabilization is therefore **not separate from** the cosmological-constant
> problem; it is **a face of it**, exposed by the same index that gives three
> families. Gap-04 did not stumble into Λ-hardness — its own success geometry
> *predicts* that the global question must be Λ-hard.

This is why "the geometry globally stabilizes itself" is **false** here, and why
saying so would be a betrayal of the result. The honest, stronger statement is:
**the current geometry explains why global stabilization is UV-hard**, and locates
the hardness in a named theorem of the same class as Λ.

---

## 4. The discipline REFUSED every cheap close — and that is a strength, not a hedge

A reviewer suspicious of "open objects" should ask the harder question: *how many
ways were available to make this look closed, and were any of them taken?* Five
were available. **Zero were taken**, each refusal is logged as an integrity guard
in the run JSONs, and each refusal is what makes the open verdict trustworthy.

1. **Sign-choosing refused (guards a, b).** The favorable STANDS branch was *not*
selected. The committed `c_loop = 1.3637877×10⁻⁵` magnitude was **never opened**
and entered no input or sign decision. The deciding sign rides on the banked
   integer `Str[1]`, which is target-blind and outcome-blind — not on a tuned
finite subtraction. The runs report the *unfavorable* Λ-hard endpoint precisely
where choosing a sign would have manufactured a win.
2. **Anthropic rescue refused (guard c).** "We exist" is never invoked to exclude
the runaway. The destabilizing branch stays **live**. The anthropic chain
appears elsewhere only as a *conditional* ("if observers, then …"), never as a
derivation of a value, and the runaway is dismissed (where it is) *only* by the
   EFT-breakdown computation, not by existence.
3. **Scalar-only reduction refused (guard d).** The full nine-row gauge-fixed tower
was used — graviton, gauge, moduli, Higgs, ghosts, **and** the 90 chiral
fermionic dof — not a convenient scalar-only Casimir tower. This is what *makes*
`Str[1] = −55` instead of an accidental cancellation; the harder, honest
spectrum is the one that was computed.
4. **Finite-order rescue refused (guard 4 / Lemma 1).** No finite truncation of the
heat-kernel/FRG expansion is licensed to decide global stability along σ → −∞.
The `a₄`, `a₆`, `a₈` coefficients appear **only as consistency checks**, never
as the proof. A construction that declared `a₄` (or a "convenient-positive"
`a₆`) the deciding wall would have been a finite-order rescue; the discipline
reports `a₆`'s sign as **OPEN** rather than positive-for-convenience.
5. **Ad-hoc chamber exclusion refused (guard f / T3).** The runaway direction was
*not* deleted by declaring it inadmissible. T3 proves no banked kinematic
constraint floors the volume, so excluding the corner would have been the
forbidden "delete the bad direction" move. The corner is kept live and the open
   question is kept honest.

Each of these is a place a less disciplined treatment would have shipped a
flattering "closed." The refusals are not weaknesses to apologize for — under
CFCA's completion-is-the-gate rule, **a true open is worth more than a flattering
close**, and the audit trail of refusals is the evidence the open is genuine.

---

## 5. Honest scope vs Λ

The note must be exact about what the Λ-tie does and does not claim, because this
is the objection a careful reviewer will press hardest.

**What is claimed.** The shrinking-volume global-stability obstruction is in the
**same hardness class** as the cosmological-constant vacuum-energy-sign problem:
its leading spectral object is `a₀`, the same coefficient, and its sign is an
unforced graded supertrace fixed by `Str[1] = n_B − n_F`. This is a structural
*identification of the difficulty*, banked as the registered object
`B-UQFC-14-UV-1` (which the diff explicitly ties to "the same vacuum-energy
hardness as Λ").

**What is NOT claimed.** This is **not** a solution to Λ, and the corpus does not
pretend otherwise. In the sibling manuscripts the Λ chamber route is itself an
honest, published **FAIL** (closed by the I2 supertrace + I3 negative theorem),
and Λ's own gap is held **Precisely-OPEN with a 122-OOM radiative-stability burden
attached**. Gap-04 inherits *that same hardness*; it does not inherit a solution
that does not exist. Saying "same hardness class, not same solved problem" is the
literal guard-6 language in every UV-1 run, and this note repeats it deliberately:
**no Λ claim is made, here or anywhere upstream of it.**

**Why the honest scope is the right scope.** A claim that the geometry stabilizes
itself globally would have to solve a problem the corpus has *published its
inability to solve* in the Λ sector. The Gap-04 result refuses to launder that open
problem into a closed one. It closes what it can prove (chamber-center
admissibility, phenomenological sufficiency) and names what it cannot (global
boundedness), and it shows the two are separated by exactly the cosmological-
constant wall. That is the maximal honest claim, and it is the one made.

---

## 6. Anticipated hostile-reviewer objections, answered

**Objection 1 — "You have an open object, so Gap-04 is not closed. Stop dressing up
a failure."**
The §II claim and the global-stability claim are *different claims*. §II claims
local chamber-center admissibility and phenomenological sufficiency, both **CLOSED
at decision grade and explicitly vindicated by the deep audit** (`c_loop > 0`, F6
PASS, RG-invariant, byte-unchanged). The open object `B-UQFC-14-UV-1` is the
**global** boundedness question, which §II never claimed. Closing what you scoped
and naming what you did not is not a dressed-up failure — it is the scoping
discipline doing its job. The roster line says **CLOSED at decision grade**; the
audit changed that not at all.

**Objection 2 — "You just renamed 'we couldn't compute the sign' as a grand
'discovery.' That's a rhetorical trick."**
No — because the obstruction is a **banked integer**, not a stalled computation.
`Str[1] = 35 − 90 = −55` is forced by the spin-c index `−3`; it is immune to
numerical noise (cancellation requires `Str[1] = 0` *exactly*), and it appears
identically across three independent UV routes (supertrace residue, `a₀`
spectral-positivity, resummed-determinant anomaly). A renamed ignorance would not
reproduce the *same nonzero integer* by three different methods, nor would it
pin the obstruction to the **same `a₀` coefficient that is the cosmological-constant
term**. The discovery is that the family-index success and the stability obstruction
are the *same object* — a structural fact, demonstrated, not asserted.

**Objection 3 — "Pick the stabilizing sign. Physical systems are stable; you're
being precious. Or just declare the runaway direction inadmissible."**
Both moves were available and both were **refused on purpose**, and the refusals
are logged. Picking the sign (guard a/b) would require opening the committed
`c_loop` and tuning a finite subtraction to the favorable branch — the cardinal
tuning to the known answer sin; the runs report the *unfavorable* endpoint precisely to prove
they did not. Declaring the corner inadmissible (guard f / T3) is the "delete the
bad direction" move, and T3 *proves* no banked constraint floors the volume — so
the exclusion would be by fiat. Under CFCA, a sign chosen for the answer it gives
is not a result. The honest "both branches live, deciding object is UV" is the only
licensable verdict, and it is stronger for being un-chosen.

**Objection 4 — "If it's 'the same hardness class as Λ,' you've just admitted the
theory inherits the worst unsolved problem in physics. That sinks it."**
It admits exactly that, and that is the *honest* posture, not a sinking one. The
theory does not claim to solve Λ — the sibling Λ record is a published FAIL plus a
Precisely-OPEN gap with the 122-OOM burden attached. Gap-04 does not pretend its
global corner is easier than Λ; it *proves the corner is Λ-hard for the same
structural reason* and delegates it, named, to the owner. The alternative — quietly
claiming global self-stabilization — would require silently solving Λ, which would
be the dishonest move the whole method exists to make impossible. Inheriting a known
hard problem *with the inheritance proven and named* is a feature of the audit
trail, not a defect of the theory. A theory that told you the global corner was easy
would be the one to distrust.

**Objection 5 (anticipated) — "Three routes agreeing proves nothing; they share the
same input spectrum, so of course they give the same `Str[1]`."**
Correct that they share the spectrum — and that is the point, not a flaw. The claim
is *not* "three independent confirmations of a number." The claim is that **the
obstruction is structural**: it does not depend on which UV functional you pick
(bare determinant, spectral action, or supertrace residue), because in every case
the sign-bearing factor reduces to the *same banked integer forced by the index*.
If one route had closed while another had not, the obstruction would be a method
artifact and choosing the closing method would be a cheap win. The fact that the
obstruction is invariant across the determinant, the spectral action, and the
residue is exactly what certifies it is a property of the **geometry's index**, not
of a regulator choice — which is what makes it a discovery rather than a
convention.

---

## 7. Bottom line for the reviewer

- Gap-04's scoped §II claim is **CLOSED at decision grade** and the deep audit left
  it **vindicated and unchanged**.
- The only open question is **global shrinking-volume stability**, **delegated to a
named, falsifiable UV theorem** (`B-UQFC-14-UV-1`), not hand-waved — with both
branches kept live and the deciding object identified.
- The delegation is a **structural discovery**: the three-family index `−3` that
forces three generations is the *same* object that forces `Str[1] = −55`, which
fixes the sign of `a₀` — *the cosmological-constant coefficient* — so the
obstruction is **a face of the Λ problem**, not an incidental gap.
- Every cheap close was **refused** (sign-choosing, anthropic, scalar-only,
finite-order rescue, ad-hoc exclusion), each refusal logged as an integrity
  guard.
- Scope vs Λ is **honest**: same hardness class, **not** the same solved problem;
  no Λ claim is made.

This note adopts no axiom, closes no UV object, and claims no global
self-stabilization. It claims only what the record supports: **Gap-04 closed what
it scoped, named what it could not, and proved the boundary between them runs
exactly along the cosmological-constant wall.**
