# Quantum Gravity — the Graviton (UQF-5A / 5B / 5C)

## What this gate must establish

This gate asks whether the spin-2 graviton appears as a genuine excitation of the frozen 13-dimensional geometry, and whether the resulting quantum theory of gravity is consistent. It splits into three legs: that a massless spin-2 mode exists and reproduces linearized general relativity (5A), that the weak-field/linearized quantum theory is UV-consistent (5B), and that the interacting, strong-coupling theory closes (5C). The honest ceiling is the same as the whole programme: **serious candidate / partial unification — NOT validated.**

## The geometry's role (load-bearing, not validation)

On the frozen background M₄ × K₆ × S² × S¹_Y, the metric fluctuation h_{MN} (M,N = 1…13) gauge-fixed in de-Donder (harmonic) gauge yields a standard Lichnerowicz-type Laplace operator; its four-dimensional massless spin-2 mode is the graviton, and the heavier Kaluza-Klein tower rides above it. The geometry therefore *supplies the operator* whose properties decide consistency — it does not, by itself, certify that the quantum theory is finite or unitary. Critically, the physically meaningful quantity is the **ghost-corrected** coefficient: a graviton-only result is gauge-dependent, so the Faddeev-Popov (and possible third-) ghost contributions must be subtracted with correct sign and multiplicity before any consistency claim is even well-posed.

## Current honest status

**Badge: CERTIFICATE-CONDITIONAL (linearized 5A/5B, conditional on UQF-9) · OPEN (interacting/strong-coupling 5C). No status was ever upgraded.**

- **5A (the mode exists, structural):** The *form* of the de-Donder graviton operator and the ghost sector are standard textbook structures that can be written down. The d=13-specialized curvature endomorphism is set-up-able but not run here. This leg is certificate-grade as structure, conditional on the items below — it is not an independent validation of GR.
- **5B (weak-field UV consistency):** This rests on the named missing object **a₆** — the Seeley-DeWitt / heat-kernel coefficient tr[a₆(L_grav)] at d=13, projected onto the cubic-curvature basis. It is **not computed.** It is "perturbative but heavy," not undecidable; until it is computed and shown to satisfy positive-definiteness for physical-Hilbert-space closure, weak-field UV consistency is conditional. In the register this is **Gap-01 (Precisely-OPEN, walled at field grade)** and **UQF-9 (UV completion, AUDIT/OPEN)**, where the candidate fixed point exists only at a declared truncation. An audit also found a real ~31% curvature error inside the corpus a₆ engine that must be corrected; its clean dimensionless color ratio (124/315) is derived, but the dimensionful magnitude is scheme/scale-anchored, not derived.
- **5C (interacting / strong-coupling):** **OPEN.** Even a finite, positive a₆ certifies *one* heat-kernel consistency coefficient, not a UV completion — the corpus carefully names a₆ as the missing object *for* UV completion, never as the completion (subsystem S6, owner-physics / Clay-adjacent). Graviton-sector unitarity above the cutoff (**UQF-14**) is explicitly blocked by UQF-9. A standing internal warning (the unbounded a₆ < a₈ < a₁₀ operator ladder) is exactly why one coefficient cannot settle strong-coupling behavior.

"Given E" caveat: as everywhere in the programme, results hold given the observed Standard-Model content as input — this is not a derivation of that content. **Given-E ≠ derivation of E.**

## What would close it

The concrete near-term path is the a₆ computation: assemble and project the graviton+ghost trace tr[a₆] at d=13 over the full cubic-curvature basis (a major, reproducibility-gated computer-algebra task on the machine lane), correct the ~31% curvature error, settle the shared heat-kernel scheme object, and check it against the positive-definiteness falsifier. If it violates positivity, the gate is refuted at decision grade. Closing 5A/5B in this sense would lift them from CERTIFICATE-CONDITIONAL to certificate-grade **conditional on UQF-9**. The **honest no-go for 5C**: a full UV completion / strong-coupling closure of quantum gravity is a global open problem shared with all approaches; the geometry supplies the operator but no constructive lever across that wall.
